Georgetown Day School
Washington, DC

The Georgetown Day School (GDS) was founded almost 75 years ago as the very first integrated school in Washington DC. This beloved institution was looking to move their lower middle school campus community and combine it with their existing high school campus located near Tenley Town in DC. The move would better serve the students and their families and create a new, expanded 10 acre, K-12 campus.

Working with Gensler Architecture's DC office, LEMON BROOKE designed a combined campus which will include a new lower middle school building and athletic facilities to create a more cohesive student community and integrated curriculum for the whole GDS community. The renovated campus will include unique outdoor playscape spaces as well as more traditional athletic opportunities such as basketball, and rock climbing.

Much care and consideration has been afforded to meet the high bar for environmentally friendly materials and storm water solutions. As a learning environment, the outdoor spaces and surrounding landscape not specifically aimed at programmed recess activities have been considered for the teaching opportunities that they might provide.
