The Playscape at Ripley
Concord, Massachusetts
The Playscape at Ripley is designed to be an accessible and inclusive park for people of all ages and abilities, all the while maintaining an essential connection to the ecological and cultural history of the site. A project that is vigorously supported by the community, and guided by a local steering committee, it was constructed in phases as funds became available.
The main features of the project include the removal of invasive species, the replanting of historically appropriate native plants, an accessible path, an outdoor gathering space, and willow tunnels. Additional features include a hillside embankment slide with catmint, custom crafted weaving nests, a large sand play area with an accessible “sand ship”, an accessible merry-go-round, and a guide rope for the visually impaired and those needing directional assistance.
