United Teen Equality Center (UTEC)
Lowell, Massachusetts
The United Teen Equality Center is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 by young people looking to create a safe space for others, in response to gang violence. Their nationally recognized model reaches gang members and disconnected youth where they are and offers real-world employment experience, childcare, educational opportunities, and social supports.
LEMON BROOKE is leading a design team in the renovation of a highly visible, shared open space that will enhance the programs already offered by UTEC and be open to the public for general use. Funded with state and local grants, the corner park is adjacent to the existing UTEC Lowell facilities and will provide a space for outdoor dining and recreation with seating, water features, and flexible open space appropriate for use by the UTEC childcare services.
